Arranged marriages are all well and good as a cultural factor, but for the people that actually believe that marrying is a promise to god to love a person it most often cannot work. However in cultures where love is not a factor the majority of the time, only the subservient role of the woman a patriarchal society is what matters, along with money. Basically there is one majorly bad point from a feminist viewpoint: being turned into a slave in most cultures and not having the choice as to who you marry (especially if they are a wifebeater). But there is the good side; it removes all pressures off the woman to have to try and look beautiful all the time and attract a husband, the husband is already picked so the woman doesn't have to live up to unrealistic standards of beautry unlike in western culture. Again though if you never met the person how can you love them? Of course Marx would say the purpose of the arranged marriage is to ensure the maintainence of power within the families of the bourgeoisie to keep the workers subservient (as well as the women). But Marx says that about everything, hes about as monotonous as Freud. Freud what's that? A penis. Marx what's that? An ideological control mechanism for ensuring the ruling class' superior situation over that of the civil majority. Congratulations, everyone who read that is now an expert of Freudian Psychoanlaysis and Marxist theory. You remind me of me on a fantastic day.... Well not really but who wouldn't want to be like this. You rock all mighty god

I think that if I was forced into an arranged marriage I wouldnt be pleased. But thats because I was taught that marriage was something voluntary, if your taught from birth that marriage is arranged yoru more likely to accept it. I woudnt haha!
Oh my plans for taking over the earth are finally coming to fruition! I spent all weekend doing sociology coursework so Im pretty good on the crime and deviance side of things now, plus I did religion in January so thats pretty fresh in my mind too, so I can answer stupid questions like that too. But still, time for class kiddies!
Functionalism 101: Everything has a positive function that without it has no use. Without this positive function society would collapse since EVERYTHING increases social solidarity, including crime.
Postmodernism 101: Society is becoming more individualised, and as such people have more choice. THis leads to greater cultural diversity. STATE THE OBVIOUS WHY DONT YOU? THey say thats a good thing though unlike functionalists.
Next time we'll do INteractionists and Weberian theory! CLASS DISMISSED!
QUite ironic cos I want to be a lecturer when Im older (not soc though) so this is about as much work as Id have to do haha!
And who is bill? Is that a compliment?

Ah the false prophet has returned once more! I must battle him on the eternal grounds of Barad'Ur near the Archipelago of Death using nothing but the ceremonial blades of Korath! Or maybe I just dont know who he is anyways I play guitar, and have long hair, and know lots of useless shitty info... ah! I've worked out why I dont know Bill! Because I AM Bill... in the Edward Norton is really Tyler Durden in Fightclub kinda way, not the entire Im using a fake name thing. As I promised though here is our next lesson! Interactionism: It isn't what happens to society that matters, it's how people see and react to it that does. Labelling people is useful but also very bad in some cases. Weber: Religion correllates with the formation of capitalism, and as such it is clear that religion enforces and supports the capitalist ethic (especially Protestant religions such as Calvinism and Luterhanism that encourage abstinance). He invented interpretivism Hes kinda rocking, cos he gets you lots of marks in an exam since he isnt a MAJOR theorist, and most people find him hard to grasp! He also called positivism (which shall be explained next time along with pluralism) "useless shit" but in german, cos he was german and called Maximillian. Like my dog. God dammit positivists suck arse, though I myself used positivist methods in my coursework... cos its easier than interpretivist methods which take AGES to do. In other words positivism is for the lazy people haha!
